Find out where to practice yoga to improve your mental and physical health

Breathe in through your nose and out through your mouth as you lean into the stretch. Inhale deeply, then exhale. The majority of yoga lessons all across the world feature these well-known terms. This ancient style of yoga is based on breathwork and poses, making it a great way to increase flexibility, muscle strength, breathing, and health.

According to the NHS in the UK, yoga can "improve physical and mental wellbeing." Why not consider attending an overseas yoga retreat to help maintain and improve your mental health? Travel is known to be beneficial for your mental health.

Here are a few locations to take into account for a mental health boost or yoga retreat whenever you can travel safely once more as the world gets ready for the International Day of Yoga (on June 21).

Lamu, Kenya

The Coast district of Kenya's picturesque archipelago offers culture, history, and a much-needed slower pace of life. You must walk everywhere on the islands because there are no cars. There are many venues to take yoga courses in Lamu, which has a growing yoga culture. Banana House, where I have taken courses, offers excellent classes for yogis of all levels. They also hold yoga retreats and an annual yoga festival. One of my favorite aspects of this place is that the studio is outside, where you may re-establish your connection with your body and with nature. You can swim in the afternoon or enjoy a drink at night on an island nearby after class.

Pick one of the neighborhood hotels or guest homes, each with distinctive rooms and frequently with views of the sea. The islands include some of the most stunning lodging options, some of which are in historic palatial estates. Along with the yoga and calm pace of life, Lamu provides a wonderful cultural vacation with mouthwatering and unique cuisine.

One of the most magical sites I have ever been to is located along the old Swahili Coast, which was once a center for trade. Lamu is uniquely itself; it exudes an irresistible allure and charm that begs you to simply slow down, be more conscious, and savor each minute. Spend some time in Lamu's Old Town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and think about extending your trip by a few days to go on a safari or see a wildlife rehabilitation center.

Goa and Rishikesh, India

A yoga retreat cannot be planned without India in mind. You can choose from a wide variety of ashrams and yoga courses, so think about which locations in India most appeal to you and offer the yoga course you want to take or an ashram that you think will complement your chosen yoga and meditation path. The state of Goa and the city of Rishikesh in the Uttarakhand region are home to some of the greatest yoga locations. You are likely to achieve greater levels of inner calm thanks to the traditional yoga practices and the massive mountains.

The International Yoga Festival, which once drew millions of yogis from around the globe, is also held in Rishikesh. Rishikesh should be on your list of potential places to visit when it is safe to do so, even though a festival like this may not be feasible soon.

Bali and Bintan, Indonesia

Another location that draws yogis from all over the world is Indonesia. While this stunning nation is made up of over 17,000 islands, Bali and Bintan are excellent options for your yoga vacation. As you must take a brief ferry ride from Singapore to the Indonesian island of Bintan, in the Riau Province, you can combine a trip there with a few days in Singapore. I cherished doing sun salutations while doing yoga on the sand in Bintan, connecting with the ground and the water as I heard the South China Sea splash across the beach.

Bali is a yoga lover's dream. It has so lot to offer tourists and proponents of wellness, from its zen vibe to the numerous temples you can explore. Try a traditional Balinese massage if your muscles start to hurt; it involves stretches and aromatherapy, extending the advantages of your yoga practice and enhancing your efforts to better your mental health.

Mallorca, Spain

Spain already. It is famous for its stunning beaches, vibrant culture, delicious cuisine, and gorgeous architecture. But yoga is one of the lesser known attractions. Across the country, there are many yoga retreats, including those dedicated to Ashtanga and kayaking styles. Palma, the capital of the Spanish island of Mallorca, has excellent yoga studios and options to develop or start your practice. Test a new yoga routine or clean up the yoga you currently do at home. You can make your vacation a family affair by making use of some of the studios for yoga stands and yoga for kids.

Imagine spending your days practicing yoga, your nights learning why Spain is a foodie's paradise, and your mornings looking out over the stunning Mediterranean. Visit monasteries, castles, and cathedrals to view traditional Spanish architecture on the days you chose to go exploring. La Seu, a Palma church constructed in the Gothic style by the Aragon dynasty, will appeal to history buffs.

You may reconnect with nature and yourself on vacation, which is both possible and highly recommended for mental health improvement. There is the perfect yoga retreat available for your needs, whether you intend to travel alone, with family, or with friends.

An overseas yoga retreat is an ideal getaway, but before you go, think about the COVID-19 advancement for both you and the local businesses that will profit from your visit. Recognize the prevalence, transmission rate, and travel requirements in the nations of your departure and arrival. If necessary, you could have to make the trip shortly, giving you more time to organize the ideal vacation for better mental health.
